The Sidney Prize and the Raymond Hertz Volunteer Leadership Award

The Sidney Prize is an annual award granted by the Hillman Foundation in recognition of outstanding socially conscious journalism that fosters “society’s most vital and resilient values.” The foundation was founded to commemorate the late president and labor leader of Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, who worked to advance progressive industrial democracy. Its mission is to illuminate issues that affect working Americans while seeking equitable solutions. Past winners of the Sidney Prize include Jane Mayer, who wrote extensively on the abuses of power by Dick Cheney, and Bill Moyers, who covered the Iraq War.

The Sydney Peace Prize brings inspiring stories of people from all walks of life who demonstrate how peace is possible to the Australian and international stage, educates on these solutions, and honours the individuals at their core. The prize is Australia’s only international peace prize and is a platform for the voices of those who have devoted their lives to making global justice a reality.
