HKJC Draws the Xplorer Prize and BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize

In addition to the overall prize money, the winner of each category will receive a certificate and a trophy. The first and second runners-up will each be invited to join a special art activity organised by the HKMoA. They will also be eligible to apply for scholarships with Wharf to continue their art studies.

The Xplorer Prize was initiated in 2018 by Pony MA, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tencent and Founder of the Tencent Foundation, alongside renowned scientists. The award aims to encourage young scientists to pursue science and explore the world. It will recognise outstanding scientific research in five fields: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Health, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing, and FinTech. The award is open to any person under the age of 50 at the time of nomination. It is not intended to reward the same person in the same field within a five-year period.

HKJC’s security and customer service departments take a series of measures to ensure the draw’s fairness, including weighing and measuring all balls and checking their condition on a regular basis. In addition, all the materials used for the draw are locked and kept in a safe location after each drawing. Employees with the HKJC’s security and customer service department also strictly check all procedures in the draw.

During the recent protests in Hong Kong, hundreds and even thousands of people including police officers, journalists, tourists or students from mainland China as well as innocent Hongkongers were assaulted by anti-government demonstrators. In addition, public facilities like subway stations and traffic lights were vandalised. Some businesses and shops were even forced to close.

It is important to protect the lives and property of people who are not involved in the protests and do not participate in riots, and we should all show our support for the victims. We also hope that the people who are not involved in the protests will not be stigmatized or smeared by the media and will return to normal life as soon as possible.

BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is hosted by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation, and sponsored by BOCHK. It aims to recognize excellent scientific researchers who have demonstrated their outstanding research achievements, with the goal of attracting global top science talent, nurturing forward-looking scientists and together building Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub.

It is important to promote positive images about Hong Kong and encourage more people to visit the city, especially at a time when tensions in our region are high. The tourism industry is doing its part to help, with a number of new initiatives designed to boost the destination’s appeal. Among them is a new promotion that will offer discounts on flights to Hong Kong for visitors from mainland China. The campaign runs through November and December. More details can be found here.
